Keep or cull- who gets your vote?

Social Enterprise magazine is today launching an online poll to find out which social enterprise support organisation you think is value for money for the Office for Civil Society (OCS).

Currently, 40 organisations are strategic partners of the government department, including a raft that are particularly focused on community and social enterprise like the Social Enterprise Coalition and School for Social Entrepreneurs. But civil society minister Nick Hurd has announced his intention to slash that number to 15, saving the department more than £4.5m.

To help the minister make his mind up, we're asking our readers to nominate the organisation they think does the best job of representing their needs to government. It's a snap poll- you only have a week to vote- and the results will be announced in next week's Livewire and on Twitter.

It's easy to vote and with social enterprise at such a crucial stage we're sure Hurd would like all the feedback he can get.

A few ground rules. In his letter to the current strategic partners, Hurd said that he is looking for partners that can deliver on his three key priorities: 'making it easier to set up and run a charity, social enterprise or voluntary organisation; getting more resources into the sector; and making it easier for the sector to work with the state'.

He also said that no one organisation could receive more than 25 per cent of its funding from OCS and that £500,000 us the maximum any organisation can receive.
