John Lennon Airport and Can Cook Studio
The second stage of the Impetus programme commenced on the 1st December 2009. Bringing together our Impetus cohort of social enterprise leaders, the day began with a 'behind the scenes' tour of Liverpool John Lennon airport.
The tour encompassed a presentation on the 'Past, Present and Future' of the airport and allowed the group to see the workings and mechanics of the arrivals and departures areas.
A discussion with Andy Dutton, the airports Head of Environment, followed the tour providing an insight into John Lennon Airports attitude towards Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and its support for the local community. As a huge part of the community, it proved interesting to see how John Lennon Airport carried out its responsibility to act ethically and responsibly compared to social enterprises.
The Impetus cohort then moved onto 'Five for Families'. Robbie Davison took the group on a tour of the organisations various projects that work with children, young people and parents to improve their lives.
Lunch followed at the Can Cook Studio, an innovative, first of its kind, community owned commercial cookery school.

Impetus Launch Event
Monday 16th November saw the launch of the new 2009/10 Impetus programme. Blackburne House played host to our event, bringing together last years participants with our current cohort.
The Impetus programme is designed to offer networking, leadership support and development opportunities to key social entrepreneurs, and thus help build the social enterprise movement across Merseyside.
The importance of the Social Enterprise movement on Merseyside and the part that Impetus has to play in the development of the sector was emphasised by the speakers in attendance. Graham Worrell (CEO ELECT, Chair of SEN), Claire Dove (CEO Blackburne House and Chair Social Enterprise Coalition) and Les Bellman (Business Dvelopment Manager the Eldonian Group), all gave inspiring, informative and entertaining speeches.
The speakers were followed by the new SEN Impetus film, detailing the journey that last years participants went on, giving the new cohort an idea of what to expect from the 2009/10 programme.
An excellent lunch was followed by a Managment/Leadership workshop hosted by Robbie Davison of Five for Families, challenging the new Impetus cohort to question their definitions as to what role a 'Leader' and 'Manager' should play. This proved to be an engaging and entertaining session with a number of participatory activities taking place, and a good introduction to the programme.
The next stage of the Impetus programme involves a visit to Liverpool John Lennon Airport to see how seriously large organisations take 'Corporate Social Responsiblity' and how this contrasts to the ethos of the social enterprise sector.
